About Purpose of Position: Environmental Superintendent Jobs at Anglo American
Job Description:
The role provides input into the Company’s strategy from a legal, reputational and operational perspective as well as ensures that the Company’s strategic intent is operationalized and executed through the environmental management system (development & implementation). The role is required to oversee both open-pit mining and underground project activities (as well as all associated activities) and provide environmental assurance to both.
WORK OF THE ROLE:
The successful candidate will be required to:
Construction of processes to manage compliance obligations, significant aspects, needs and expectations of interested parties and environmental factors that may affect the business.
Continually analyse and evaluate the status of the above and synthesize into an overarching environmental risk assurance document for the mine.
Utilize the organization’s authority to exercise control and influence in the above-mentioned areas, in a life cycle approach and make the risk assurance information available to Top Management for input into the business and sustainability strategy in a risk-based approach.
Identify changes in line with the Company’s strategy and provide guidance to improve environmental system and operational performance.
Ensure the adequacy, suitability and effectiveness of Management Systems (e.g. 14001:2015) and tools (e.g. Isometrix, Enablon, Operating Model) in order to meet the company’s objective of enhanced environmental performance.
Coordinate and manage compliance to all applicable Group Standards and Goals (e.g. Building Forever Commitments, Anglo Environmental Standards etc.).
Ensure compliance to Mine Closure Toolbox and rehabilitation activities and deliverables.
Manage all environmental authorisation processes such as acquisition and implementation in line with the Anglo Minimum Permitting Requirements as well as facilitate the auditing and reporting requirements.
Management of relevant contractors, projects and environmental team.
Provide specialist input into the designs, processes and execution of projects where required.
Proactive Risk Management to ensure compliance.
Manage section budget and all required reports to management.
Manage stakeholder engagements and coordinate and lead regulator and other external audits, inspections and investigations. Provide input/assurance into the finalization of internal audit reports.
Promote knowledge-sharing, improvement of leadership and coordination skills and drive excellence in operational implementation through regular coaching sessions with team.
Strategize and plan for specialist studies and outputs in line with proactive consideration of legislative, business and process changes.
Plan and coordinate the department’s workload by setting and adjusting individuals’ objectives to achieve set targets.
Drive and coordinate sectional meetings. |

Qualifications:
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: (Education & Experience)
Gr 12
Bachelor’s degree/B Tech in Environmental Science.
Honours degree will be advantages.
At least 3-5 years’ experience in an environmental role.
Supervisory experience.
Contractor management experience.
Isometrix experience.
Disciplined delivery on Environmental Requirements.
Relevant ISO14001 Training.
Environmental legal compliance training.
Valid EB/Code 08 Drivers License.
Successfully obtain a Red Ticket (Medical Fitness certificate) and Security clearance on mine.
SKILLS/ COMPETENCIES:
Advanced knowledge of environmental management within mining environments.
Knowledge and experience to gather, analyse and apply information toward management of environmental impacts and enhancement of environmental performance.
Technical and analytical capability to act in an advisory capacity.
Supervisory experience with ability to organize, energize and build collaborative relationships with team and organisational members across all levels.
Ability to prioritize, and delegate work to achieve intended outcomes within the required timeframes.
Leads continuous improvement and change to improve service delivery and quality.
Sound written and verbal communication skills |
