About Purpose of Position: Senior Resource Estimation Geologist Jobs at Anglo American

Job Description:
As Senior Resource Estimation Geologist, you will provide various services and your responsibilities will include:

Mining Operation/Project Planning Cycle – Establish and maintain validated borehole database and generate representative geological solids model inputs to the development of long-term geological block models to inform long-term mine planning for operations and projects.
Resource and Reserve Reporting Cycle – Compile Mineral Resource Reports on an annual basis to state the Mineral Resources of a mining operation/project as required by Kumba and according to Anglo-American R&R reporting requirements to adhere to the SAMREC Code.
Document Control Procedures: Generate appropriate outputs/documents for use by supervisors and individual contributors
Document Control Systems: Drive requisite access to system and edit documents as required.
Archival Processes: Implement/maintain/improve relevant data and model archival processes
Data validation: Ensure that data received from the exploration team is checked and validated.
Borehole data feedback loop: Give feedback to the exploration team on the validation findings of the data.
Geological Environment: Understand the local geology of deposit to be modelled, from ore genesis and tectonostratigraphic relationships by considering previous solids and block models where available and liaising with Exploration and Production Geologists generating information on the relevant deposit.
Data Analysis: Analysis of all relevant data that will inform geological block models.
Model validation: Ensure that solids models honour the exploration information 100%, are spatially correctly positioned and do not have gaps or overlaps between any modelled domains.
Create and update geological models as per business requirements. This includes conducting full geostatistical process of creating geological models, including Exploratory Data Analysis (EDA), variography, Quantitative Neighbourhood Analysis (QKNA), grade estimation, model validation, and geological confidence classification.
Communication of geological information: Have formal reviews in place to report all key geological information and/or changes to the key geological information to the Geosciences leadership team, with a particular focus on communicating opportunities to create value through geological block model insights.
Spatial reconciliation of geological block models with former versions is essential in communicating changes. This reporting must consider the value chain informing geological modelling as well as the value chain clients of the block model.
Mineral resource reporting does not form the core of the duties, but Kumba Iron Ore, when required, will expect the incumbent to participate in the process.
Mineral Endowment tabulation: Extract Mineral Endowment information from geological block models of mining operation/project using the business’s relevant constraints to populate the Kumba and Anglo-American Mineral Resource reporting templates.
Compile full Mineral Endowment statements for mining operation/project according to the company’s R&R reporting requirements.
When relevant competency has been achieved as defined by the SAMREC Code, Mineral Resource estimates will have to be attested to before peers and sign-off as Competent person on Mineral Endowment statements will be required.
Plan and execute continuous improvement activities to achieve model representability and rapid ore body modelling turn-around times.

Qualifications:
B.SC (Hons.) Geology
Post-graduate qualification in geostatistical field would be favourably considered.
Relevant professional registration (Member of SACNASP)
Experience:

Minimum five years of experience in the resource modelling environment.
